Nevada Humane Society is the only open-admission, no-kill animal shelter in the state of Nevada.
We were founded in 1932 to make a difference in the lives of homeless pets in our community. As an organization, we work hard to keep our operating expenses low to ensure your donations go directly to providing life-saving care, and finding homes, for pets in need. We do not receive government grant funding, and are not affiliated with any national animal welfare organizations. We are proud of the work we do to help more than 16,000 pets each year, and we couldn’t do it without our dedicated Board of Directors, staff, donors and volunteers.
2020 was especially challenging for many organizations, including ours. We are proud to have remained open during the entire pandemic ensuring the homeless pets in our community had the care, resources and support needed to find their forever homes. Check out our annual report to learn more about the impacts of our life-saving work, to read some of our favorite rescue tails and to see snapshots of how we supported and uplifted the community!
Charity Ratings
We are the only animal welfare organization in the state to have been awarded four out of four stars on Charity Navigator. We also earned a Platinum Seal on Guidestar. The Platinum seal indicates that we have provided all information requested for maximum transparency to donors, including recent year financial documents, demographic and diversity information about our staff and board members, and metrics demonstrating the multi-year impact our work, and progress toward the fulfillment of our mission statement. We were also voted best non-profit in the Reno Gazette Journal’s Best of 2022 Awards and were a finalist in Nevada Appeal’s Best of Carson City Awards. As an organization, we are committed to maximum transparency and trustworthiness with our donors and with the public. Thank you for your support!
