As a local nonprofit organization, we are here for both the pets and people in Northern Nevada. We understand your furry friends are truly part of your family, and providing resources and support to pet parents helps build a stronger community.
And because we know the joy of lounging on the couch with our dog or playing with our new kitten, we want to give every animal and person the same experience. The first step is saving and caring for animals in need.
It’s not an easy job. But when we’re able to find a loving home for one of the animals at either of our campuses, we’re reminded it’s definitely a rewarding one.
In addition to housing and caring for animals at our campuses, we help thousands of pets each year through various programs, community adoption events, and animal transfers we accept from rural shelters. Our community connections across Northern Nevada are invaluable; they make this level of support possible.
Bo arrived at our Carson City campus with a suspected gunshot wound. AEC’s amazing vet team addressed it, noting he remained alert and showed no signs of internal damage. Once he healed his body, his foster-turned-furever family healed his heart.

Sassy, unique Maddy was surrendered to us in March 2023, adopted, and returned a few months later. She became a long-term resident, spending 100 days at our Reno campus. Once we transferred her to Carson City, Maddy quickly met her new family.

When Hopper arrived, he had a femur fracture and severe swelling. His leg was amputated by our vet team to preserve his quality of life. After healing, Hopper was adopted. He went through training for behavioral challenges early on and is now thriving.
