A Happy Ending for a Loving Dog

Millie arriving from the other shelter!
In 2021, we took over 600 transfers from other shelters that did not have the resources or space to care for the amount of animals in their space.
Millie happened to be one of the dogs that we tranferred in from a shelter in California, that no longer had the space for her. We came to learn that although Millie was very sweet, she had a hard time trusting people upon first meetings. We knew that it might be a long road getting to know this girl, but that with time and patience we could earn her trust.
Building Trust
Our team and dedicated volunteers worked with Millie as she went out for daily walks and play time. Slowly, she was able to gain some trust wtih people around the shelter. She LOVED a good treat and that was always the key to her heart.
Start to a New Family

Millie’s Adopter made this beautiful cross-stitch potrait of her
Millie’s adopters fell in love with her upon their first time visiting the shelter, but Millie was not too sure about them yet. They were so dedicated, that they continually came back to visit her, every time getting closer and closer to her until they were eventually able to pet her and sit next to her.
Our team also noticed their dedication to this dog, and knew that they would make a great family for her. After she finally was able to accept pets from both of them, they filled out the paperwork and offically became Millie’s new people!
Making Great Strides
They shared that when Millie got home, it did take her a bit to come out of her shell and get comfortable in her new space. Once she did though, they became the best of friends. They brought Millie back to visit the team at the shelter a few weeks later, and we could just see that her eyes looked brighter and her confidence had blossomed.
Millie’s adopters shared some of her favorite acitivities to do with them. “She loves to play with us. She enjoy car rides. Millie loves talking to everybody and loves to jump around like a deer when we play with her. She has a weird sense of humor. She is corky. We know that she will also protect us.” – Millie’s Adopter.
We could not be happier for Millie and her new family. This is why we are so grateful to be able to give dogs like Millie a second chance. To see how you can help, visit our Donate Page.
