The ducks are coming! The ducks are coming! Just this week, 20,000 bright yellow, rubber ducks were delivered to Nevada Humane Society and are now attending Duckie Boot Camp to get in shape for the upcoming Duck Race & Festival, where they will race down the Truckee River to raise money and awareness for homeless pets.
If you haven’t adopted your ducks yet, now is the time to do so that they can get ready for this big day! The Duck Race & Festival is Sunday, August 18 from 11am to 5pm at Wingfield Park.
Rubber duck adoptions are easy, fun, and make a splashy difference in the lives of homeless pets. You can adopt one duck for just $5 or a Quacker’s Dozen or an entire Feathered Flotilla—but the more you adopt the better your chances are for your duck crossing the finish line first, therefore making you the winner of the grand prize, a brand new 2019 Toyota Yaris (or $10,000) generously donated by Dick Campagni’s Carson City Toyota!
You can adopt a rubber duck through various, easy, avenues:
- Online at org or https://www.duckrace.com/reno
- In person at Nevada Humane Society in both Reno and Carson City
- Via phone at 775-856-2000 ext. 320 or 335
- At various community events, farmers markets and more
Once you adopt, be sure to take the ducky challenge—ask your family, friends and co-workers to join in on the fun, adopting their own duck to race yours down the river! If everyone does just that, Nevada Humane Society can meet their goal of adopting 20,000 rubber ducks into the community—therefore helping homeless pets at the same time!
Festivities at the event include live entertainment, clowns, carnival games, vendors, a variety of food trucks and more, culminating in the actual Duck Race at 4pm. Winners do not need to be present. The Duck Race & Festival is free and open to the public.
Sponsors include Dick Campagni’s Carson City Toyota, KRNV News 4, FOX News, KOH 780AM, K-Bull 98.1, The Vibe 95.5, Wild 102.9, Reno News & Review, Q&D Construction and the City of Reno, as well as the many Duck Partners and volunteers.
