Trent here, with a Nevada Humane Society Metrics Monday update and some key information about last week.
As of 8 am Monday, May 27, we had 710 animals in our care – this is 28 additional animals compared to the previous week. We have 58 at our Carson Campus, 220 at our Reno Campus, and 432 in the care of our foster volunteers. The Carson Campus dog kennels are at 67.24% capacity and the Reno Campus dog kennels are at 75.35% capacity.
215 animals came into our campuses last week – an 11% decrease from the previous week. NHS received 60 Owner/Guardian Surrenders (+16 animals from the previous week), 15 Strays (+1 animals from the previous week) and 35 Good Samaritan Strays (-29 animals from the previous week). We also transferred in 55 cats, 32 dogs, and 0 other animals from our close partners at Washoe County Regional Animal Services.
90 cats, 61 dogs, and 4 others were adopted last week – this is 16 more cats, 7 fewer dogs, and 4 fewer other animals compared to the previous week. We were able to reunite 0 cats (-2 from the previous week) and 10 dogs (-2 from the previous week) with their owners.
Last week, 7 cats and 1 dog was humanely euthanized for medical reasons and 4 kittens and one dog failed to thrive and died unassisted in our care. 3 dogs were euthanized for aggression to humans and 2 for aggression to humans and animals.
Definitions:
- Last week: The period from Monday to Sunday ending on 05/26/2024.
- Previous week: The period from Monday to Sunday ending on 05/19/2024.
- Owner/Guardian Surrenders – Animals surrender to NHS by the legal owners of the animal.
- Strays – Animals found and turned into NHS without a clear owner.
- Good Samarian Strays – Animals found and turned into NHS who are younger than 8 weeks of age and too young to stay in shelter for a stray hold.
