Caucasian Shepherds are a breed that many are unfamiliar with, which is why our Shelter was thrilled to get the opportunity to rescue them. Hundreds of dogs had to be removed from two properties in Nye County, NV, and received shelter, enrichment, medical and behavioral care from the ASPCA.
These dogs never had the chance to experience a loving home, enough food to eat, or have someone be kind to them. The dogs needed urgent care as they were underweight and suffering from untreated medical conditions.
Our staff members fell in love with one of the rescues, a timid 2-year-old dog named Mamacita. As she was fostered by an expert on how to handle these big, burly dogs, Mamacita slowly came out of her shell and found out she loved treats and certain toys.
One of Mamacita’s puppies was named Manuel. This adorable fluff ball went to a home out in Fernley with acres to run wild and free…with a few alpaca friends.
Yep, you read that right. Manuel’s owner, Margarita, raises these equally fluffy and gentle creatures on a farm like no other in Fernley.
The other puppies in Mamacita’s litter are doing well and scattered across the Truckee Meadows area, all in happy homes where they have plenty of space to run and grow up normally.
