Far Away From Home
Sassy is Brandi’s beloved dog. When she escaped the yard and wandered her way away from home, this could have been devastating. Brandi says that she believed Sassy started making her way to her mother’s house, where they used to live, before she was picked up.
Someone passing by saw a dog wandering alone, so they stopped and picked her up. They were trying to help Sassy and brought her to Washoe County Regional Animal Services, but this was an hour away from their home in Silver Springs.
Many people feel that they are helping animals by turning them in to their local animal services center, which usually they are. The problem is that if you take the animal from where you find them, to where you live they might never be reconnected with their families.
Brandi’s daughter posted about her mom’s beloved dog on a Silver Springs Facebook page in order to get the word out. Brandi visited the Silver Springs Animal Services where they informed her that they would keep an eye out for her.
They found Sassy four days after this, just a day before she would have become available to be adopted out.
“It was out pure luck and the faith of God for her to be back home.”– Brandi, Sassy’s dog mom.
In this situation, Brandi and her daughter got help from their community to track down her darling Sassy. It is important to keep in mind that although you might have the best intentions when helping lost pets, you must keep them close to where you find them.

The Love Lost software is a new facial recognition technology from Petco. This service allows you to upload your pets photo into a database, so that if you ever lose your loved one, they can be recognized across the network.
They have partnered with 880 shelters, including us, to help make this service central and reunite lost pets with their owners.
