Recycle your Packaging
Around this time of year, with gifts being passed around and boxes being opened, we might find ourselves with some extra packaging lying around. Instead of throwing it out, try temporarily transforming it into something your pets will love!
Something so simple can be so wonderous to our pets. Before you do your sweep after all the fun has wound down from the days of celebrating, take a moment to turn it into something your pet can have endless fun with.
Cats and other small animals like bunnies LOVE boxes! Try turning a box into their very own “condo.” You can spruce it up by cutting holes to serve as “windows” and even decorating it. Get the kids involved by having them draw something special on the inside or outside. You can put fun toys on the inside, or even add soft material to make it nice and cozy for them. They will have a personal space to hangout, either with their siblings or flying solo.
Turn any plastic containers into a slow feeder! This works well with items that have a round edge. You can cute small holes all around it, so that treats can pass through. Then you fill it with your pet’s favorite treats and watch at they push it around! As they push it, treats will dispense from it, keeping them engaged.
Packing paper from deliveries or tissue paper that we use to wrap presents is great for entertainment pets, especially for small animals or cats. They can have fun digging around and playing in the paper!
If you have an excess of supplies like paper plates, use them for your pets. Take leftover paper plates (new ones- not used!) and disperse a bit of your pet’s food on them. Super enticing food like wet food is an added bonus. Put these around the house for a day or two and let them work for their meals! By hiding them around they have to find or sniff out their food to eat it.
Paper Roll Toy
Use your extra rolls, from wrapping paper, etc. to make fun toys for your cat! You can cut long rolls into smaller pieces, creating multiple toys, or pull tissue paper through both ends, giving you fun toys for your cat to scratch and bat around!
