Esperanza, previously known as Oxana, was given this name by her new owner Sofia because it means “hope” in Spanish. When she came to the shelter, she was afraid and would not come too close to anyone. Our team knew that it would take an extended period of time for this shy pup to feel comfortable and confident in her new home, and that she would need an adopter with the patience and time needed to work with her.
When Sofia came to meet her, she fell in love!
“When I first adopted Esperanza, she was one of the most timid dogs I had ever met – she was so scared initially, she spent the first few days hiding.
Little by little, I worked to earn her trust, and soon she was approaching me, taking treats out of my hand, and even following me around the house a bit. It’s been about a month now with Espi, and she is a completely transformed dog: she sleeps in bed with me, gets excited to go on walks everyday, plays with me, and even runs up to my roommate everyday for belly rubs. She is an absolute blessing, and with a little love, she has become the best companion I could ever ask for!” – Sofia Cohen
Esperanza or “Espi” is now leash trained and absolutely loves her new home! Sofia and Espi are a perfect match.
