Celebrating our Animal Control Officers
April 10 – 17, 2022 is celebrated as Animal Control Officer (ACO) Appreciation week! Our Animal Control Officers in Carson City do so much to help out our community and go above and beyond to do their jobs.
We just wanted to take a moment to share a bit of what they do and show what a typical priority call would look like for them. Check out how our ACOs keep the community safe every day!
Our ACOs recieve many different types of calls that help keep people & pets in the community safe including:
- Stray calls (as featured in the video above)!
- Animals that have been hit by a vehicle or other injured animals
- Animal bites or incidents
- Animal cruelty investigations
- Officer assists supporting local law enforcement (incidents such as a pet injured in a car crash & overcrowding situations)
We also often assist with exotic creatures including 50 pigeons and a roaming turkey which we ended up finding homes for!

Our ACO and team members working together to build a pigeon coop for 50 piegons.
Thank you ACOs for all the hard work that you do everyday! To learn more about our Carson City Shelter and services, visit the page.
