A Cozy Home for the Holiday Season
This holiday season, we were grateful to find homes for so many pets. During our Home for the holidays promotion, we were able to find homes for 237 pets in just a couple of weeks! Some of our longest term and senior pets got a second chance and a family to call their own.
Zeke
Being an open-admission, no-kill shelter we take in pets no matter age, background or medical condition. Zeke came to us as a senior and a stray, and caught the eye of some special who worked with him when he arrived.
Jeffrey’s partner was doing her rotation for shelter medicine at Nevada Humane Society when she came across a special patient. Zeke stood out to her due to his sweet and loving demeanor with all the staff in the clinic that were caring for him. She told Jeffrey that they needed to go and meet with him, and adopt him because “he was loving on all the doctors and staff even after surgery.”
Zeke went from being out on the street with no where to turn, to showered in so much love. Him and Jeffrey have created an inseparable bond and make sure to get our for daily walks and always save room for cuddle time!
“Our favorite things to do together include afternoon walks to explore the neighborhood, making new friends (dogs and people), and relaxing on the couch with a good movie. Adding him to my life has hugely improved my eagerness to get outside more and enjoy being outside. I’m definitely looking forward to the summer when we can take him on hikes with us.” – Jeffrey, Zeke’s Adopter.
Beset
Beset is a 15-year-old cat that took a bit longer than most to find her forever home. She was the beloved office cat of Lisa, our Development Coordinator where she received lots of attention from our team. Beset struggled with some skin issues, that we attributed to be stress induced and required some special food and medication.
Beset continued to be overlooked due to her age and special dietary needs, even though her personality continued to shine. She became used to having the company of people, and would wait ever so patiently for Lisa to return each morning.
Beset went out as a Foster for the Holidays pet, a program to help our long term pets be in a home for the holidays. Her foster ended up falling in love with her and adopting!
“She is the most cuddly cat I’ve ever met. Her favorite spot to sleep is under the blankets snuggling with whoever will let her.” – Giovana, Beset’s Adopter.
Scout
Scout came to us as a very scared pup. Our team worked with him everyday to build up his confidence and bring him out of his shell. He quickly stole the hearts of not only our team, but our volunteers who got the chance to take him out for daily walks. We loved watching him start to blossom here, and new that he needed a special family to continue to work with him and make him comfortable.
That is just what he found! His new people love him very much and have been working with him on all of his needs.
“He’s super sweet and very playful, loves hikes and playing fetch. He’s adjusted really well and once he meets strangers he loves on them just as much as my husband and I. In the first photo, he’s showing off his love of falling asleep upside down. The second one is him playing with what is now his second favorite toy (we got him an “indestructible” ball which he now loves). The third is him with a Christmas scarf that PetCo was willing to give him even though we didn’t have him groomed there.” – Sarah, Scout’s Adopter.
