Peanut was adopted from Nevada Humane Society in 2019 and has quickly become the mascot and face of our organization over the last year! Peanut loves to help out his shelter pet friends by spreading awareness about Nevada Humane Society and doing different fundraisers for the shelter.

Peanut was brought in to NHS in 2019 when his previous owners no longer had the resources to care for him. He had a severe mouth infection that was making him quite uncomfortable. Peanut was also incredibly stressed out being in a kennel, and our Animal Care Director started seeking a foster home for him.
A dedicated volunteer at the time, Peanut’s mom saw him having a hard time and instantly melted. He was very overwhelmed and stressed in the shelter so she knew that she needed to give him a comfortable place to settle in.
Peanut’s new family immediately fell for him and decided to make him a permanent part of their pack! After spending some time in foster care, they came back and officially adopted him. He just celebrated his two year Adopt-a-versary!
Last summer, they did a DNA fundraiser for him and it turns out that this amazing rescue dog is a mix of 13 different breeds. People submitted their guesses, but no one even came close! Everyone was shocked to see his final results (check them out!).
Peanut’s Mom Kristen is now an official member of the NHS Team as our Development Director and loves to bring him to pop-ups as well as many of our events.

He’s a mix of 13 different breeds. His nicknames are Nutter Butter and Nutter Butter Rescue Pupper.

Peanut is a certified therapy dog through the Alliance of Therapy Dogs.
He has no teeth. They all had to be removed to do a severe infection, but now he is pain free and eats lots of soft treats! He doesn’t like the wind if he’s on a walk, but loves his head out the window of the car. He’s legitimately been mistaken for a rabbit. His bark sounds more like a large dog than a dog his size. His Instagram was started to raise awareness about adoption (especially seniors dogs) as well as to raise money for Nevada Humane Society.
He does a wake up video each day for his IG followers that usually includes a big stretch. He’s in the 2022 We Rate Dog calendar for May 4 (as many people feel that Peanut is a baby Yoda look- alike) and is rated a 14/10.
