A Save of 2023

Who rescued who?

Meet the boy who stole all of our hearts.

A stray dog with his skin in ruff condition arrived at our shelter and quickly captured the hearts of the staff with his charming personality. Despite his scruffy appearance, his endearing demeanor made him an instant favorite among all. The shelter workers were impressed by his resilience and spirit, and they were committed to finding him a loving home where he could receive the care and attention he deserved.

Meet Two Socks.

After coming to us a stray, our clinical team began to work on getting Two Socks’ skin happy andhealthy. He was put on medications, a hypoallergenic diet, and medicated baths. Two Socks was adopted but returned twice, each time causing his skin to worsen due to stress and confusion. After months of waiting, he was adopted for a 3rd time. The 3rd time was the charm because he had found his fur-ever home.

Here is the story of Two Socks adoption.

A few months after losing their beloved senior rescue, several people told Jen about Two Socks, including their family in Ohio. Scott wasn’t aware of this, but when they went to the shelter to meet some dogs, he went straight to Two Socks and felt an immediate connection. It seemed like it was meant to be! Here is what they have to say:

“We are happy to report that Two Socks is thriving! During the day, he keeps me company while I work at home. He especially loves sunbathing on the deck and chasing quail in the yard. He’s an expert cuddler with Scott on the couch at night. On the weekends, he’s all about climbing mountains and going on adventures. What we love most about Two Socks is that he always tries so hard; he truly wants to be the best dog. When we adopted Two Socks, he had a major setback with his skin condition from the stress of the adoption; we’re sure he missed his friends at NHS! He’s now healthy again with the help of our wonderful vet. He’s currently working on slowly making new human friends and learning to manage his reactions towards other dogs- we’re making progress! The “3-3-3 rule” is real and as time passes, he is blossoming even more. His adopting listing said his middle name was Spoiled, and we’re dedicated to living up to that! All in all, he’s a very good boy.”

We are grateful to new families who give our dogs the time they need to adjust to their new beginning. Two Socks is a great example of this!

The best Christmas gift is seeing these furry friends find their forever homes. Our mission is to care for pets, find them homes and save lives. This is possible because of our community’s support and donors’ generosity. Wishing you and your furry family a warm and cozy holiday season.
