The Gift of Love and Second Chances

Our Carson Humane Enforcement Officers picked up a dog with a suspected gunshot wound to the head.

He was immediately transported to the incredible veterinary team at AEC, where they noted he was alert and showed no signs of brain injury during the examination. He was then transferred to our Reno Campus where he had access to regular veterinary care through our Clinic. Our medical team continued care, noting he was bright and alert during each exam.  After his wounds were healing well, he was ready to start looking for a new start and his fur-ever home.

Meet Bo, the dog with a miraculous story of survival. The dog who persevered against all odds for his second chance!

After two months of waiting in our Carson Campus, we decided it was time to look for a foster for Bo. Edith is a  foster who regularly gives senior animals a break from the shelter. Edith and Bo spent a few weekends together before she decided she wanted to foster Bo more permanently and became his full-time foster while he patiently waited for his fur-ever home.

Here is a statement from Bo’s foster:

“We started fostering Bo on July 2nd, 2023. He looked terrific, confused, and didn’t know any commands. My husband and I started showing him that he was in a safe home that would love, care, and protect him from any danger and also gave him his space until he was comfortable to come to us.”

Bo was in this wonderful foster home for 4 months, and then he got adopted! He got adopted by Edith (his foster mom) and her husband! She couldn’t imagine him going home with anyone else. Here is the rest of her statement:

“After fostering “Bo” for almost 4 Months and seeing how much he had changed and learned to trust us and some commands from the first day we met him, my husband and I decided that it was time to give him a FUREVER HOME on October 23rd. Before we decided to start fostering, our MISSION was to adopt a senior dog that many people do not want anymore, because of their age. But we want to let the world know that instead of thinking like that, remember that the few years they will have left with you will be the best golden years, and they will always be grateful for the love and care they gave them until their last breath. We promise to LOVE, CARE, and be there for “Bo” until his last breath under our care, and continue with our MISSION to help the other Furbabies at the shelter “Nevada Humane Society” to find  Furever Homes for each and every one of them! Here are the commands that he has learned. It has been like a month since he just learned how to sit, lay down, and bark, and he still loves his walks in the morning. He understands both languages, English and Spanish. He looks very happy and enjoys his couch to relax and sometimes to have a nap. Even though he is going to be 12 years old on February 19, 2023, he still acts and walks like a young puppy. My husband and I made the best decision when we fostered him and later decided to give him a Fur-ever Home. This is the best Christmas gift that God gave us, and our hearts are full of love again for our handsome Bo. Thank you so much for sharing our precious Bo Story with the world.”

We are so ecstatic about Bo’s resilient recovery and that he has found such a loving family. We are so grateful for all of our fosters for temporarily or permanently giving our animals a home.
