NHS Metrics Monday 11/10/25

NHS here with your Monday Metrics update along with some key information about last week.

Population & Capacity

As of 7pm Sunday, November 9th, we have 384 animals in our care – this is 69 less animals compared to the previous week. We have 35 at our Carson Campus, 188 at our Reno Campus, and 161 in the care of our foster volunteers. The Carson Campus dog kennels are at 43% capacity and the Reno Campus dog kennels are at 65% capacity.

Intakes

157 animals came into our campuses last week. NHS received 61 Owner/Guardian Surrenders (7 fewer animal from the previous week), 23 Strays (12 more animals from the previous week) and 9 Strays too young for adoption (16 fewer animals from the previous week). We also transferred 31 cats and 28 dogs from our close partners at Washoe County Regional Animal Services. 2 animals were transferred in from other partners.

Outcomes

96 cats, 62 dogs and 5 small animals were adopted last week – this is 1 less cats, 2 more dog, and 5 less small animals compared to the previous week. 2 cats were reunited with their owners (2 more than last week). We were able to reunite 21 dogs with their owners (14 more compared to last week).
We had 14 animals humanely euthanized last week. (8 dogs, 4 cats and 2 small animals) 1 was due to unsafe/dangerous behaviors. 13 were due to illness, injuries or quality of life.  As the community’s safety net, we take these decisions to heart. They are made only when all other options have been exhausted, and always with kindness, respect, and the goal of preventing suffering. These moments are incredibly difficult for our team; each one weighs heavily, as our staff care deeply about every animal that comes through our doors.

Community Support

Last week we received 36 surrender requests for cats, 76 surrender requests for dogs and 7 surrender requests for small animals. The median time between a completed application to surrender appointment last week was 4 day for cats and 6 days for dogs. Same day emergency surrender appointments are available every day for situations that require immediate relinquishment.
