NHS Metrics Monday 11/03/25

NHS here with your Monday Metrics update along with some key information about last week.

Population & Capacity

As of 7pm Sunday, November 2nd, we have 453 animals in our care – this is 7 more animals compared to the previous week. We have 48 at our Carson Campus, 229 at our Reno Campus, and 176 in the care of our foster volunteers. The Carson Campus dog kennels are at 51% capacity and the Reno Campus dog kennels are at 63% capacity.

Intakes

210 animals came into our campuses last week. NHS received 68 Owner/Guardian Surrenders (10 more animal from the previous week), 11 Strays (14 less animals from the previous week) and 25 Strays too young for adoption (7 more animals from the previous week). We also transferred 51 cats and 30 dogs from our close partners at Washoe County Regional Animal Services. 23 animals were transferred in from other partners.

Outcomes

97 cats, 60 dogs and 8 small animals were adopted last week – this is 14 more cats, 1 less dog, and no change for small animals compared to the previous week. No cats were reunited with their owners (1 less than last week). We were able to reunite 7 dogs with their owners (no change compared to last week).
We had 14 animals humanely euthanized last week. (10 dogs and 4 cats) 2 were due to unsafe/dangerous behaviors. 12 were due to illness or injuries.  As the community’s safety net, we take these decisions to heart. They are made only when all other options have been exhausted, and always with kindness, respect, and the goal of preventing suffering. These moments are incredibly difficult for our team; each one weighs heavily, as our staff care deeply about every animal that comes through our doors.

Community Support

Last week we received 20 surrender requests for cats, 55 surrender requests for dogs and 5 surrender requests for small animals. The median time between a completed application to surrender appointment last week was 7 day for cats and 12 days for dogs. Same day emergency surrender appointments are available every day for situations that require immediate relinquishment.
