NHS Metrics Monday 10/27/25

NHS here with your Monday Metrics update along with some key information about last week.

Population & Capacity

As of 7pm Sunday, October 26th, we have 446 animals in our care – this is 44 more animals compared to the previous week. We have 54 at our Carson Campus, 215 at our Reno Campus, and 177 in the care of our foster volunteers. The Carson Campus dog kennels are at 52% capacity and the Reno Campus dog kennels are at 54% capacity.

Intakes

206 animals came into our campuses last week. NHS received 58 Owner/Guardian Surrenders (6 less animal from the previous week), 25 Strays (3 more animals from the previous week) and 18 Strays too young for adoption (8 less animals from the previous week). We also transferred 46 cats, 26 dogs, and 4 small animals from our close partners at Washoe County Regional Animal Services. 17 animals were transferred in from other partners.

Outcomes

83 cats, 61 dogs and 8 small animals were adopted last week – this is 21 less cats, 15 less dogs, and no change for small animals compared to the previous week. 1 cat was reunited with their owners (1 less than last week). We were able to reunite 7 dogs with their owners (2 less compared to last week).
We had 12 animals humanely euthanized last week. (4 dogs, 7 cats and 1 small animal) 2 were due to unsafe/dangerous behaviors. 10 were due to illness or injuries.  As the community’s safety net, we take these decisions to heart. They are made only when all other options have been exhausted, and always with kindness, respect, and the goal of preventing suffering. These moments are incredibly difficult for our team; each one weighs heavily, as our staff care deeply about every animal that comes through our doors.

Community Support

Last week we received 29 surrender requests for cats, 52 surrender requests for dogs and 5 surrender requests for small animals. The median time between a completed application to surrender appointment last week was 6 day for cats and 8 days for dogs. Same day emergency surrender appointments are available every day for situations that require immediate relinquishment.
