NHS Metrics Monday 09/15/25
NHS here with your Monday Metrics update along with some key information about last week.
Population & Capacity
As of 7pm Sunday, September 14th, we have 471 animals in our care – this is 70 fewer animals compared to the previous week. We have 59 at our Carson Campus, 190 at our Reno Campus, and 222 in the care of our foster volunteers. The Carson Campus dog kennels are at 49% capacity and the Reno Campus dog kennels are at 57% capacity.
Intakes
196 animals came into our campuses last week, 75 less than the previous week. NHS received 61 Owner/Guardian Surrenders (3 more animals from the previous week), 17 Strays (7 more from the previous week) and 13 Strays too young for adoption (10 less animals from the previous week). We also transferred 43 cats, 25 dogs, and 0 other animals from our close partners at Washoe County Regional Animal Services. 0 animals were transferred in from other partners.
Outcomes
120 cats, 63 dogs, and 5 others were adopted last week – this is 5 less cats, 12 more dogs compared to the previous week. No cats were reunited with their owners (1 less than last week). We were able to reunite 13 dogs with their owners (4 more dogs from than last week).
16 animals were humanely euthanized last week. (8 dogs, 7 cats and 1 small animal) 7 were due to unsafe/dangerous behaviors. 9 were due to illness or injuries.
Community Support
Last week we received 19 surrender requests for cats and 72 surrender requests for dogs. The median time between a completed application to surrender appointment last week was 4 days for cats and 10 days for dogs. Same day emergency surrender appointments are available every day for situations that require immediate relinquishment.

- Last week: The period from Monday to Sunday ending on 09/14/2025.
- Previous week: The period from Monday to Sunday ending on 09/07/2025.
- Owner/Guardian Surrenders – Animals surrender to NHS by the legal owners of the animal.
- Strays – Animals found and turned into NHS without a clear owner.
- Good Samaritan Strays – Animals found and turned into NHS who are younger than 8 weeks of age and too young to stay in shelter for a stray hold.
