NHS Metrics Monday 08/04/25

NHS here with your Monday Metrics update along with some key information about last week.
Population & Capacity
As of 7pm Sunday, August 3rd, we have 465 animals in our care – this is 55 fewer animals compared to the previous week. We have 59 at our Carson Campus, 188 at our Reno Campus, and 218 in the care of our foster volunteers. The Carson Campus dog kennels are at 63% capacity and the Reno Campus dog kennels are at 67% capacity.
Intakes
205 animals came into our campuses last week, 1 more than the previous week. NHS received 53 Owner/Guardian Surrenders (-6 animals from the previous week), 17 Strays (-4 animals from the previous week) and 20 Strays too young for adoption (-11 animals from the previous week). We also transferred in 60 cats, 26 dogs, and 0 other animals from our close partners at Washoe County Regional Animal Services. 0 animals were transferred in from other partners.
Outcomes
145 cats, 75 dogs, and 6 others were adopted last week – this is 16 more cats, 30 more dogs, and 1 fewer other animals compared to the previous week. 1 cat was reunited with their owners (1 more than last week). We were able to reunite 10 dogs with their owners (no change from than last week).
15 animals were humanely euthanized last week. (6 dogs, 8 cats and 1 small animal) 5 were due to unsafe/dangerous behaviors. 10 were due to illness or injuries.
Community Support
Last week we received 39 surrender requests for cats and 59 surrender requests for dogs. The median time between a completed application to surrender appointment last week was 3 days for cats and 7 days for dogs. Same day emergency surrender appointments are available every day for situations that require immediate relinquishment.

- Last week: The period from Monday to Sunday ending on 08/03/2025.
- Previous week: The period from Monday to Sunday ending on 07/27/2025.
- Owner/Guardian Surrenders – Animals surrender to NHS by the legal owners of the animal.
- Strays – Animals found and turned into NHS without a clear owner.
- Good Samaritan Strays – Animals found and turned into NHS who are younger than 8 weeks of age and too young to stay in shelter for a stray hold.
