NHS Metrics Monday 07/28/25

NHS here with your Monday Metrics update along with some key information about last week.
Population & Capacity
As of 8am Monday, July 28th, we have 520 animals in our care – this is 16 fewer animals compared to the previous week. We have 71 at our Carson Campus, 211 at our Reno Campus, and 238 in the care of our foster volunteers. The Carson Campus dog kennels are at 70% capacity and the Reno Campus dog kennels are at 63% capacity.
Intakes
204 animals came into our campuses last week, 4 less than the previous week. NHS received 59 Owner/Guardian Surrenders (-7 animals from the previous week), 21 Strays (+11 animals from the previous week) and 31 Strays too young for adoption (-6 animals from the previous week). We also transferred in 48 cats, 35 dogs, and 0 other animals from our close partners at Washoe County Regional Animal Services. 0 animals were transferred in from other partners.
Outcomes
Community Support
Last week we received 46 surrender requests for cats and 67 surrender requests for dogs. The median time between a completed application to surrender appointment last week was 4 days for cats and 7 days for dogs. Same day emergency surrender appointments are available every day for situations that require immediate relinquishment.

- Last week: The period from Monday to Sunday ending on 07/27/2025.
- Previous week: The period from Monday to Sunday ending on 07/20/2025.
- Owner/Guardian Surrenders – Animals surrender to NHS by the legal owners of the animal.
- Strays – Animals found and turned into NHS without a clear owner.
- Good Samaritan Strays – Animals found and turned into NHS who are younger than 8 weeks of age and too young to stay in shelter for a stray hold.
