NHS Metrics Monday 07/07/25

Population & Capacity
As of 8 am Monday, July 7th, we have 698 animals in our care – this is 35 fewer animals compared to the previous week. We have 63 at our Carson Campus, 303 at our Reno Campus, and 332 in the care of our foster volunteers. The Carson Campus dog kennels are at 60% capacity and the Reno Campus dog kennels are at 74% capacity.
Intakes
200 animals came into our campuses last week – 33 fewer than the previous week. NHS received 43 Owner/Guardian Surrenders (-7 animals from the previous week), 35 Strays (+15 animals from the previous week) and 22 Strays too young for adoption (-17 animals from the previous week). We also transferred in 45 cats, 32 dogs, and 0 other animals from our close partners at Washoe County Regional Animal Services.
Outcomes
150 cats, 57 dogs, and 2 others were adopted last week – this is 37 more cats, 8 more dogs, and 5 fewer other animals compared to the previous week. We were able to reunite 2 cats (+1 from the previous week) and 7 dogs (-1 from the previous week) with their owners.
Last week, 2 cats and 1 dog were humanely euthanized for medical reasons. One dog was euthanized for aggression to animals, and two for aggression to humans.
Community Support
Last week we received 27 surrender requests for cats and 67 surrender requests for dogs. The median time between a completed application to surrender appointment last week was 2 days for cats and 2 days for dogs. Same day emergency surrender appointments are available every day for situations that require immediate relinquishment.
Definitions:
- Last week: The period from Monday to Sunday ending on 07/06/2025.
- Previous week: The period from Monday to Sunday ending on 06/29/2025.
- Owner/Guardian Surrenders – Animals surrender to NHS by the legal owners of the animal.
- Strays – Animals found and turned into NHS without a clear owner.
- Good Samaritan Strays – Animals found and turned into NHS who are younger than 8 weeks of age and too young to stay in shelter for a stray hold.
