NHS Metrics Monday 06/02/25

Population & Capacity
As of 8 am Monday, June 2nd, we have 797 animals in our care – this is 76 more animals compared to the previous week. We have 55 at our Carson Campus, 287 at our Reno Campus, and 455 in the care of our foster volunteers. The Carson Campus dog kennels are at 55% capacity and the Reno Campus dog kennels are at 85% capacity.
Intakes
270 animals came into our campuses last week – 13 fewer than the previous week. NHS received 80 Owner/Guardian Surrenders (+18 animals from the previous week), 6 Strays (-17 animals from the previous week) and 60 Good Samaritan Strays (+0 animals from the previous week). We also transferred in 66 cats, 27 dogs, and 60 other animals from our close partners at Washoe County Regional Animal Services.
Outcomes
84 cats, 43 dogs, and 6 others were adopted last week – this is 12 more cats, 19 fewer dogs, and 3 more other animals compared to the previous week. We were able to reunite 0 cats (-2 from the previous week) and 4 dogs (-4 from the previous week) with their owners.
Last week, 17 cats and 1 dog were humanely euthanized for medical reasons and 7 neonatal cats died unassisted in our custody.
Community Support
Last week we received 35 surrender requests for cats and 59 surrender requests for dogs. The median time between a completed application to surrender appointment last week was 6 days for cats and 5 days for dogs. Same day emergency surrender appointments are available every day for situations that require immediate relinquishment.
Definitions:
- Last week: The period from Monday to Sunday ending on 06/01/2025.
- Previous week: The period from Monday to Sunday ending on 05/25/2025.
- Owner/Guardian Surrenders – Animals surrender to NHS by the legal owners of the animal.
- Strays – Animals found and turned into NHS without a clear owner.
- Good Samaritan Strays – Animals found and turned into NHS who are younger than 8 weeks of age and too young to stay in shelter for a stray hold.
