
NHS Metrics Monday 04/14/25

Trent (Chief Operations Officer) with a Nevada Humane Society Metrics Monday update and some key information about last week.
As of 8 am Monday, April 14th, we have 389 animals in our care – this is 38 more animals compared to the previous week. We have 41 at our Carson Campus, 144 at our Reno Campus, and 204 in the care of our foster volunteers. The Carson Campus dog kennels are at 40% capacity and the Reno Campus dog kennels are at 84% capacity.
193 animals came into our campuses last week – 21 more than the previous week. NHS received 55 Owner/Guardian Surrenders (-11 animal from the previous week), 15 Strays (-5 animals from the previous week) and 29 Good Samaritan Strays (+12 animals from the previous week). We also transferred in 28 cats, 40 dogs, and 2 other animals from our close partners at Washoe County Regional Animal Services.
64 cats, 49 dogs, and 17 others were adopted last week – this is 7 more cats, 10 fewer dogs, and 10 more other animals compared to the previous week. We were able to reunite 0 cats (+0 from the previous week) and 7 dogs (-1 from the previous week) with their owners.
Last week, 2 cats and 2 dogs were humanely euthanized for medical reasons and one neonatal cat died unassisted in our custody and one rabbit died due to complications during surgery. 5 dogs were humanely euthanized for aggression to humans.
Last week we received 49 surrender requests for cats and 98 surrender requests for dogs. The median time between a completed application to surrender appointment last week was 5 days for cats and 6 days for dogs. Same day emergency surrender appointments are available every day for situations that require immediate relinquishment.
Definitions:
- Last week: The period from Monday to Sunday ending on 04/13/2025.
- Previous week: The period from Monday to Sunday ending on 04/06/2025.
- Owner/Guardian Surrenders – Animals surrender to NHS by the legal owners of the animal.
- Strays – Animals found and turned into NHS without a clear owner.
- Good Samaritan Strays – Animals found and turned into NHS who are younger than 8 weeks of age and too young to stay in shelter for a stray hold.
