Hello Friends!

Trent (Chief Operations Officer) with a Nevada Humane Society Metrics Monday update and some key information about last week.

As of 8 am Monday, March 31st, we had 322 animals in our care – this is 50 more animals compared to the previous week. We have 44 at our Carson Campus, 139 at our Reno Campus, and 139 in the care of our foster volunteers. The Carson Campus dog kennels are at 40% capacity and the Reno Campus dog kennels are at 71% capacity.

201 animals came into our campuses last week – 60 more than the previous week. NHS received 77 Owner/Guardian Surrenders (+25 animal from the previous week), 9 Strays (-11 animals from the previous week) and 14 Good Samaritan Strays (+8 animals from the previous week). We also transferred in 37 cats, 35 dogs, and 2 other animals from our close partners at Washoe County Regional Animal Services.

64 cats, 69 dogs, and 3 others were adopted last week – this is 11 more cats, 14 more dogs, and 2 fewer other animals compared to the previous week. We were able to reunite 1 cat (+1 from the previous week) and 7 dogs (-4 from the previous week) with their owners.

Last week, 1 cat and 4 dogs were humanely euthanized for medical reasons. 2 dogs were humanely euthanized for aggression to humans.

Last week we received 66 surrender requests for cats and 89 surrender requests for dogs. The median time between a completed application to surrender appointment last week was 6 days for cats and 5 days for dogs. Same day emergency surrender appointments are available every day for situations that require immediate relinquishment.

• Last week: The period from Monday to Sunday ending on 03/30/2025.
• Previous week: The period from Monday to Sunday ending on 03/23/2025.
• Owner/Guardian Surrenders – Animals surrender to NHS by the legal owners of the animal.
• Strays – Animals found and turned into NHS without a clear owner.
• Good Samaritan Strays – Animals found and turned into NHS who are younger than 8 weeks of age and too young to stay in shelter for a stray hold.
