
NHS Metrics Monday 03/10/25

Trent (Chief Operations Officer) with a Nevada Humane Society Metrics Monday update and some key information about last week.
As of 8 am Monday, March 10th, we had 259 animals in our care – this is 5 more animals compared to the previous week. We have 37 at our Carson Campus, 121 at our Reno Campus, and 101 in the care of our foster volunteers. The Carson Campus dog kennels are at 47% capacity and the Reno Campus dog kennels are at 61% capacity.
144 animals came into our campuses last week – 25 fewer than the previous week. NHS received 64 Owner/Guardian Surrenders (-1 animal from the previous week), 18 Strays (+0 animals from the previous week) and 4 Good Samaritan Strays (+2 animals from the previous week). We also transferred in 26 cats, 16 dogs, and 2 other animals from our close partners at Washoe County Regional Animal Services.
58 cats, 49 dogs, and 9 others were adopted last week – this is 6 fewer cats, 27 fewer dogs, and 2 fewer other animals compared to the previous week. We were able to reunite 3 cats (+0 from the previous week) and 17 dogs (+5 from the previous week) with their owners.
Last week, 1 cat and 1 dog were humanely euthanized for medical reasons. 3 dogs were humanely euthanized for aggression to humans and 1 dog was humanely euthanized for aggression to humans and animals.
Last week we received 61 surrender requests for cats and 59 surrender requests for dogs. The median time between a completed application to surrender appointment last week was 4 days for cats and 7 days for dogs. Same day emergency surrender appointments are available every day for situations that require immediate relinquishment.
Definitions:
- Last week: The period from Monday to Sunday ending on 03/09/2025.
- Previous week: The period from Monday to Sunday ending on 03/02/2025.
- Owner/Guardian Surrenders – Animals surrender to NHS by the legal owners of the animal.
- Strays – Animals found and turned into NHS without a clear owner.
- Good Samaritan Strays – Animals found and turned into NHS who are younger than 8 weeks of age and too young to stay in shelter for a stray hold.
