
NHS Metrics Monday 02/17/25

Trent (Chief Operations Officer) with a Nevada Humane Society Metrics Monday update and some key information about last week.
As of 8 am Monday, February 17th, we had 263 animals in our care – this is 18 fewer animals compared to the previous week. We have 41 at our Carson Campus, 134 at our Reno Campus, and 88 in the care of our foster volunteers. The Carson Campus dog kennels are at 53% capacity and the Reno Campus dog kennels are at 65% capacity.
148 animals came into our campuses last week – 25 fewer than the previous week. NHS received 54 Owner/Guardian Surrenders (-16 animals from the previous week), 16 Strays (+1 animals from the previous week) and 3 Good Samaritan Strays (+3 animals from the previous week). We also transferred in 22 cats, 31 dogs, and 0 other animals from our close partners at Washoe County Regional Animal Services.
56 cats, 71 dogs, and 14 others were adopted last week – this is 3 more cats, 10 fewer dogs, and 6 more other animals compared to the previous week. We were able to reunite 2 cats (+1 from the previous week) and 17 dogs (+8 from the previous week) with their owners.
Last week, 1 cat and 1 dog were humanely euthanized for medical reasons. Two cats’ behavior was so severe that they could not be medically treated and required humane euthanasia. 1 dog was euthanized for aggression to humans.
Last week we received 47 surrender requests for cats and 68 surrender requests for dogs. The median time between a completed application to surrender appointment last week was 8.5 days for cats and 10.5 days for dogs. Same day emergency surrender appointments are available every day for situations that require immediate relinquishment.
Definitions:
- Last week: The period from Monday to Sunday ending on 02/16/2025.
- Previous week: The period from Monday to Sunday ending on 02/09/2025.
- Owner/Guardian Surrenders – Animals surrender to NHS by the legal owners of the animal.
- Strays – Animals found and turned into NHS without a clear owner.
- Good Samaritan Strays – Animals found and turned into NHS who are younger than 8 weeks of age and too young to stay in shelter for a stray hold.
