
NHS Metrics Monday 01/27/25

Trent (Chief Operations Officer) with a Nevada Humane Society Metrics Monday update and some key information about last week.
As of 8 am Monday, January 27th, we had 335 animals in our care – this is 23 more animals compared to the previous week. We have 63 at our Carson Campus, 166 at our Reno Campus, and 106 in the care of our foster volunteers. The Carson Campus dog kennels are at 72% capacity and the Reno Campus dog kennels are at 74% capacity.
158 animals came into our campuses last week – 29 fewer than the previous week. NHS received 52 Owner/Guardian Surrenders (+4 animals from the previous week), 16 Strays (-3 animals from the previous week) and 0 Good Samaritan Strays (-4 animals from the previous week). We also transferred in 49 cats, 23 dogs, and 0 other animals from our close partners at Washoe County Regional Animal Services.
54 cats, 57 dogs, and 8 others were adopted last week – this is 17 fewer cats, 1 fewer dogs, and 5 more other animals compared to the previous week. We were able to reunite 2 cats (+0 from the previous week) and 5 dogs (-9 from the previous week) with their owners.
Last week, 1 dog was humanely euthanized for medical reasons. One died unassisted in our care. 2 dogs were euthanized for aggression to humans.
Last week at our Reno Campus, we received 33 surrender requests for cats and 84 surrender requests for dogs. The median time between a completed application to surrender appointment last week was 3.5 days for cats and 12 days for dogs. Same day emergency surrender appointments are available every day for situations that require immediate relinquishment.

- Last week: The period from Monday to Sunday ending on 01/26/2025.
- Previous week: The period from Monday to Sunday ending on 01/19/2025.
- Owner/Guardian Surrenders – Animals surrender to NHS by the legal owners of the animal.
- Strays – Animals found and turned into NHS without a clear owner.
- Good Samaritan Strays – Animals found and turned into NHS who are younger than 8 weeks of age and too young to stay in shelter for a stray hold.
