Trent (Director of Operations) with a Nevada Humane Society Metrics Monday update and some key information about last week.
As of 8 am Monday, December 30, we had 313 animals in our care – this is 23 fewer animals compared to the previous week. We have 33 at our Carson Campus, 155 at our Reno Campus, and 125 in the care of our foster volunteers. The Carson Campus dog kennels are at 43.10% capacity and the Reno Campus dog kennels are at 69.72% capacity.
123 animals came into our campuses last week – 15 fewer than the previous week. NHS received 42 Owner/Guardian Surrenders (-3 animals from the previous week), 5 Strays (-7 animals from the previous week) and 3 Good Samaritan Strays (+0 animals from the previous week). We also transferred in 35 cats, 27 dogs, and 0 other animals from our close partners at Washoe County Regional Animal Services.
74 cats, 48 dogs, and 0 others were adopted last week – this is 29 fewer cats, 12 fewer dogs, and 5 more other animals compared to the previous week. We were able to reunite 3 cat (+2 from the previous week) and 10 dogs (+5 from the previous week) with their owners.
Last week, 4 cats were humanely euthanized for medical reasons and 1 kitten failed to thrive and died unassisted in our care. One dog was euthanized for aggression to humans.
Last week at our Reno Campus, we received 30 surrender requests for cats and 48 surrender requests for dogs. The median time between a completed application to surrender appointment last week was 5 days for cats and 1 day for dogs. Same day emergency surrender appointments are available every day for situations that require immediate relinquishment.
Definitions:
- Last week: The period from Monday to Sunday ending on 12/29/2024.
- Previous week: The period from Monday to Sunday ending on 12/22/2024.
- Owner/Guardian Surrenders – Animals surrender to NHS by the legal owners of the animal.
- Strays – Animals found and turned into NHS without a clear owner.
- Good Samaritan Strays – Animals found and turned into NHS who are younger than 8 weeks of age and too young to stay in shelter for a stray hold.
