NHS Metrics Monday 12.23.24

Trent (Director of Operations) with a Nevada Humane Society Metrics Monday update and some key information about last week.
As of 8 am Monday, December 23, we had 336 animals in our care – this is 36 fewer animals compared to the previous week. We have 47 at our Carson Campus, 147 at our Reno Campus, and 142 in the care of our foster volunteers. The Carson Campus dog kennels are at 55.17% capacity and the Reno Campus dog kennels are at 66.90% capacity.
138 animals came into our campuses last week – 45 fewer than the previous week. NHS received 45 Owner/Guardian Surrenders (+6 animals from the previous week), 12 Strays (+2 animals from the previous week) and 3 Good Samaritan Strays (-24 animals from the previous week). We also transferred in 26 cats, 34 dogs, and 0 other animals from our close partners at Washoe County Regional Animal Services.
103 cats, 60 dogs, and 0 others were adopted last week – this is 6 fewer cats, 14 more dogs, and 1 fewer other animals compared to the previous week. We were able to reunite 1 cat (+0 from the previous week) and 5 dogs (-1 from the previous week) with their owners.
Last week, 1 cat and 1 dog were humanely euthanized for medical reasons and 2 dogs was euthanized for aggression to humans.
Last week at our Reno Campus, we received 48 surrender requests for cats and 53 surrender requests for dogs. The median time between a completed application to surrender appointment last week was 4.5 days for cats and 9 days for dogs. Same day emergency surrender appointments are available every day for situations that require immediate relinquishment.
Definitions:
- Last week: The period from Monday to Sunday ending on 12/22/2024.
- Previous week: The period from Monday to Sunday ending on 12/15/2024.
- Owner/Guardian Surrenders – Animals surrender to NHS by the legal owners of the animal.
- Strays – Animals found and turned into NHS without a clear owner.
- Good Samaritan Strays – Animals found and turned into NHS who are younger than 8 weeks of age and too young to stay in shelter for a stray hold.
