Trent (Director of Operations) with a Nevada Humane Society Metrics Monday update and some key information about last week.
As of 8 am Monday, December 16, we had 374 animals in our care – this is 6 more animals compared to the previous week. We have 46 at our Carson Campus, 181 at our Reno Campus, and 147 in the care of our foster volunteers. The Carson Campus dog kennels are at 82.76% capacity and the Reno Campus dog kennels are at 67.61% capacity. Carson Campus is continuing to have malfunctioning heating and cooling system requiring 20 additional kennels to be unused at this time.
183 animals came into our campuses last week – 40 more than the previous week. NHS received 39 Owner/Guardian Surrenders (-28 animals from the previous week), 10 Strays (+2 animals from the previous week) and 27 Good Samaritan Strays (+20 animals from the previous week). We also transferred in 53 cats, 30 dogs, and 0 other animals from our close partners at Washoe County Regional Animal Services.
109 cats, 46 dogs, and 1 other were adopted last week – this is 11 more cats, 21 fewer dogs, and 1 more other animals compared to the previous week. We were able to reunite 1 cats (-1 from the previous week) and 6 dogs (+2 from the previous week) with their owners.
Last week, 4 cats and 3 dogs were humanely euthanized for medical reasons and 1 dog was euthanized for aggression to humans and 1 dog was euthanized for aggression to humans and animals. Two dogs were euthanized due to having behavior that prevented necessary medical care.
Last week at our Reno Campus, we received 36 surrender requests for cats and 65 surrender requests for dogs. The median time between a completed application to surrender appointment last week was 5.5 days for cats and 10 days for dogs. Same day emergency surrender appointments are available every day for situations that require immediate relinquishment.
Definitions:
- Last week: The period from Monday to Sunday ending on 12/15/2024.
- Previous week: The period from Monday to Sunday ending on 12/08/2024.
- Owner/Guardian Surrenders – Animals surrender to NHS by the legal owners of the animal.
- Strays – Animals found and turned into NHS without a clear owner.
- Good Samaritan Strays – Animals found and turned into NHS who are younger than 8 weeks of age and too young to stay in shelter for a stray hold.
