Trent (Director of Operations) with a Nevada Humane Society Metrics Monday update and some key information about last week.
As of 8 am Monday, October 28, we had 520 animals in our care – this is 68 fewer animals compared to the previous week. We have 43 at our Carson Campus, 208 at our Reno Campus, and 269 in the care of our foster volunteers. The Carson Campus dog kennels are at 50.00% capacity and the Reno Campus dog kennels are at 71.83% capacity.
159 animals came into our campuses last week – a 28% decrease from the previous week. NHS received 40 Owner/Guardian Surrenders (-6 animals from the previous week), 16 Strays (+6 animals from the previous week) and 18 Good Samaritan Strays (-18 animals from the previous week). We also transferred in 35 cats, 32 dogs, and 0 other animals from our close partners at Washoe County Regional Animal Services.
119 cats, 70 dogs, and 5 others were adopted last week – this is 27 fewer cats, 13 more dogs, and 5 fewer other animals compared to the previous week. We were able to reunite 1 cat (-2 from the previous week) and 10 dogs (+4 from the previous week) with their owners.
Last week, 5 cats and 4 dog were humanely euthanized for medical reasons and 4 kittens failed to thrive and died unassisted in our care.
Last week at our Reno Campus, we received 40 surrender requests for cats and 61 surrender requests for dogs. The median time between a completed application to surrender appointment last week was 3 days for cats and 19 days for dogs. Same day emergency surrender appointments are available every day for situations that require immediate relinquishment.
Definitions:
- Last week: The period from Monday to Sunday ending on 10/27/2024.
- Previous week: The period from Monday to Sunday ending on 10/20/2024.
- Owner/Guardian Surrenders – Animals surrender to NHS by the legal owners of the animal.
- Strays – Animals found and turned into NHS without a clear owner.
- Good Samaritan Strays – Animals found and turned into NHS who are younger than 8 weeks of age and too young to stay in shelter for a stray hold.
