Hello Friends!
Trent (Director of Operations) with a Nevada Humane Society Metrics Monday update and some key information about last week.
As of 8 am Monday, October 7, we had 598 animals in our care – this is 14 more animals compared to the previous week. We have 57 at our Carson Campus, 195 at our Reno Campus, and 346 in the care of our foster volunteers. The Carson Campus dog kennels are at 53.45% capacity and the Reno Campus dog kennels are at 66.90% capacity.
230 animals came into our campuses last week – a less than 1% decrease from the previous week. NHS received 76 Owner/Guardian Surrenders (+21 animals from the previous week), 30 Strays (+5 animals from the previous week) and 36 Good Samaritan Strays (-10 animals from the previous week). We also transferred in 50 cats, 26 dogs, and 0 other animals from our close partners at Washoe County Regional Animal Services.
118 cats, 62 dogs, and 1 others were adopted last week – this is 7 fewer cats, 4 more dogs, and 10 fewer other animals compared to the previous week. We were able to reunite 3 cats (+1 from the previous week) and 5 dogs (-4 from the previous week) with their owners.
Last week, 9 cats and 1 dog were humanely euthanized for medical reasons and 4 kittens and one dog failed to thrive and died unassisted in our care. One cat’s behavior prevented the necessary medical care and was humanely euthanized. 2 dogs were euthanized for aggression to humans, 2 dogs were euthanized for aggression to animals, and one dog was euthanized after being legally declared vicious.
Last week at our Reno Campus, we received 70 surrender requests for cats and 72 surrender requests for dogs. The median time between a completed application to surrender appointment last week was 4.5 days for cats and 14 days for dogs. Same day emergency surrender appointments are available every day for situations that require immediate relinquishment.
