Trent (Director of Operations) with a Nevada Humane Society Metrics Monday update and some key information about last week.
As of 8 am Monday, September 23, we had 576 animals in our care – this is 80 fewer animals compared to the previous week. We have 56 at our Carson Campus, 161 at our Reno Campus, and 359 in the care of our foster volunteers. The Carson Campus dog kennels are at 48.28% capacity and the Reno Campus dog kennels are at 67.61% capacity.
221 animals came into our campuses last week – a 30% increase from the previous week. NHS received 70 Owner/Guardian Surrenders (+16 animals from the previous week), 15 Strays (-2 animals from the previous week) and 44 Good Samaritan Strays (+16 animals from the previous week). We also transferred in 54 cats, 29 dogs, and 0 other animals from our close partners at Washoe County Regional Animal Services.
119 cats, 54 dogs, and 2 others were adopted last week – this is 19 more cat, 2 fewer dogs, and 3 fewer other animals compared to the previous week. We were able to reunite 0 cats (-2 from the previous week) and 7 dogs (+0 from the previous week) with their owners.
Last week, 2 cats and 1 dog were humanely euthanized for medical reasons and 6 kittens failed to thrive and died unassisted in our care. 2 dogs were euthanized for aggression to humans.
Last week at our Reno Campus, we received 30 surrender requests for cats and 76 surrender requests for dogs. The median time between a completed application to surrender appointment last week was 17 days for cats and 12 days for dogs. Same day emergency surrender appointments are available every day for situations that require immediate relinquishment.
Definitions:
- Last week: The period from Monday to Sunday ending on 09/22/2024.
- Previous week: The period from Monday to Sunday ending on 09/15/2024.
- Owner/Guardian Surrenders – Animals surrender to NHS by the legal owners of the animal.
- Strays – Animals found and turned into NHS without a clear owner.
- Good Samaritan Strays – Animals found and turned into NHS who are younger than 8 weeks of age and too young to stay in shelter for a stray hold.
