NHS Metrics Monday 08.26.24

Trent (Director of Operations) with a Nevada Humane Society Metrics Monday update and some key information about last week.
As of 8 am Monday, August 26, we had 587 animals in our care – this is 26 more animals compared to the previous week. We have 63 at our Carson Campus, 197 at our Reno Campus, and 327 in the care of our foster volunteers. The Carson Campus dog kennels are at 55.17% capacity and the Reno Campus dog kennels are at 64.08% capacity.
247 animals came into our campuses last week – an 30% increase from the previous week. NHS received 47 Owner/Guardian Surrenders (-1 animals from the previous week), 15 Strays (+4 animals from the previous week) and 57 Good Samaritan Strays (-2 animals from the previous week). We also transferred in 63 cats, 53 dogs, and 0 other animals from our close partners at Washoe County Regional Animal Services.
136 cats, 66 dogs, and 3 others were adopted last week – this is 7 more cats, same number of dogs, and 5 fewer other animals compared to the previous week. We were able to reunite 0 cats (-2 from the previous week) and 2 dogs (-3 from the previous week) with their owners.
Last week, 3 cats and 1 dog were humanely euthanized for medical reasons and 2 kittens failed to thrive and died unassisted in our care. 2 dogs were euthanized for aggression to humans, and 1 dog was euthanized for aggression to humans and animals.
Definitions:
- Last week: The period from Monday to Sunday ending on 08/25/2024.
- Previous week: The period from Monday to Sunday ending on 08/18/2024.
- Owner/Guardian Surrenders – Animals surrender to NHS by the legal owners of the animal.
- Strays – Animals found and turned into NHS without a clear owner.
- Good Samaritan Strays – Animals found and turned into NHS who are younger than 8 weeks of age and too young to stay in shelter for a stray hold.
