NHS Metrics Monday 08.05.24

Trent (Director of Operations) with a Nevada Humane Society Metrics Monday update and some key information about last week.
As of 8 am Monday, August 5, we had 573 animals in our care – this is 31 fewer animals compared to the previous week. We have 53 at our Carson Campus, 218 at our Reno Campus, and 302 in the care of our foster volunteers. The Carson Campus dog kennels are at 56.90% capacity and the Reno Campus dog kennels are at 68.31% capacity.
195 animals came into our campuses last week – an 8% decrease from the previous week. NHS received 46 Owner/Guardian Surrenders (-1 animal from the previous week), 15 Strays (-5 animals from the previous week) and 40 Good Samaritan Strays (+5 animals from the previous week). We also transferred in 40 cats, 30 dogs, and 7 other animals from our close partners at Washoe County Regional Animal Services.
129 cats, 74 dogs, and 2 others were adopted last week – this is 15 more cats, 8 more dogs, and 2 fewer other animals compared to the previous week. We were able to reunite 0 cats (-3 from the previous week) and 1 dogs (-8 from the previous week) with their owners.
Last week, 1 cat was humanely euthanized for medical reasons and 5 kittens failed to thrive and died unassisted in our care. 1 kitten died in surgery. 5 dogs were euthanized for aggression to humans, and 1 dog was euthanized for aggression to humans and animals.
Definitions:
- Last week: The period from Monday to Sunday ending on 08/04/2024.
- Previous week: The period from Monday to Sunday ending on 07/28/2024.
- Owner/Guardian Surrenders – Animals surrender to NHS by the legal owners of the animal.
- Strays – Animals found and turned into NHS without a clear owner.
- Good Samaritan Strays – Animals found and turned into NHS who are younger than 8 weeks of age and too young to stay in shelter for a stray hold.
