NHS Metrics Monday 07.29.24

Hello Friends!

Trent (Director of Operations) with a Nevada Humane Society Metrics Monday update and some key information about last week.

As of 8 am Monday, July 29, we had 604 animals in our care – this is 5 more animals compared to the previous week. We have 57 at our Carson Campus, 257 at our Reno Campus, and 290 in the care of our foster volunteers. The Carson Campus dog kennels are at 55.17% capacity and the Reno Campus dog kennels are at 84.51% capacity. Our Reno and dog kennels have been over 80% every day this week. Such sustained high capacity impacts our ability to serve our community’s needs.

212 animals came into our campuses last week – a 12% increase from the previous week. NHS received 47 Owner/Guardian Surrenders (+21 animals from the previous week), 20 Strays (+1 animals from the previous week) and 35 Good Samaritan Strays (+9 animals from the previous week). We also transferred in 64  cats, 33 dogs, and 0 other animals from our close partners at Washoe County Regional Animal Services.

114 cats, 66 dogs, and 4 others were adopted last week – this is 13 fewer cats, 5 more dogs, and 1 more other animals compared to the previous week. We were able to reunite 3 cats (+1 from the previous week) and 9 dogs (+1 from the previous week) with their owners.

Last week, 3 cats and 1 dog were humanely euthanized for medical reasons and 6 kittens, 1 puppy, and 1 young rabbit failed to thrive and died unassisted in our care.
