NHS Metrics Monday 07.22.24
Hello Friends!
Trent (Director of Operations) with a Nevada Humane Society Metrics Monday update and some key information about last week.
As of 8 am Monday, July 22, we had 599 animals in our care – this is 31 fewer animals compared to the previous week. We have 61 at our Carson Campus, 247 at our Reno Campus, and 291 in the care of our foster volunteers. The Carson Campus dog kennels are at 62.07% capacity and the Reno Campus dog kennels are at 84.51% capacity. Both our Reno and Carson dog kennels have been over 80% nearly every day this week. Such sustained high capacity impacts our ability to serve our community’s needs. Carson campus had increased return to owners towards the end of the week and many great adoptions so is starting this week well.
189 animals came into our campuses last week – an 8% decrease from the previous week. NHS received 26 Owner/Guardian Surrenders (+-13 animals from the previous week), 19 Strays (+2 animals from the previous week) and 26 Good Samaritan Strays (-15 animals from the previous week). We also transferred in 57 cats, 42 dogs, and 0 other animals from our close partners at Washoe County Regional Animal Services.
127 cats, 61 dogs, and 3 others were adopted last week – this is 25 fewer cats, 14 fewer dogs, and 3 fewer other animals compared to the previous week. We were able to reunite 2 cats (-1 from the previous week) and 8 dogs (+1 from the previous week) with their owners.
Last week, 1 cat, 1 dog, and 1 rabbit were humanely euthanized for medical reasons and 4 kittens failed to thrive and died unassisted in our care. One cat’s behavior was so severe that they could not receive the medical treatment necessary to ensure good quality of life and was humanely euthanized. 3 dogs were euthanized for aggression to humans and 1 dog was euthanized for aggression to humans and animals.
