Hello Friends!

Trent (Director of Operations) with a Nevada Humane Society Metrics Monday update and some key information about last week.

As of 8 am Monday, July 1, we had 731 animals in our care – this is 56 fewer animals compared to the previous week. We have 77 at our Carson Campus, 247 at our Reno Campus, and 407 in the care of our foster volunteers. The Carson Campus dog kennels are at 75.86% capacity and the Reno Campus dog kennels are at 78.87% capacity.

230 animals came into our campuses last week – a 2% decrease from the previous week. NHS received 49 Owner/Guardian Surrenders (-7 animals from the previous week), 10 Strays (-17 animals from the previous week) and 48 Good Samaritan Strays (-6 animals from the previous week). We also transferred in 68 cats, 26 dogs, and 3 other animals from our close partners at Washoe County Regional Animal Services.

154 cats, 80 dogs, and 6 others were adopted last week – this is 36 more cats, 10 additional dogs, and 4 fewer other animals compared to the previous week. We were able to reunite 2 cats (+1 from the previous week) and 11 dogs (+6 from the previous week) with their owners.

Last week, 5 cats were humanely euthanized for medical reasons and 18 kittens failed to thrive and died unassisted in our care. 2 dogs were euthanized for aggression to humans.

 

Definitions:

  • Last week: The period from Monday to Sunday ending on 06/30/2024.
  • Previous week: The period from Monday to Sunday ending on 06/23/2024.
  • Owner/Guardian Surrenders – Animals surrender to NHS by the legal owners of the animal.
  • Strays – Animals found and turned into NHS without a clear owner.
  • Good Samarian Strays – Animals found and turned into NHS who are younger than 8 weeks of age and too young to stay in shelter for a stray hold.
