Hello Friends!

Trent (Director of Operations) with a Nevada Humane Society Metrics Monday update and some key information about last week.

As of 8 am Monday, June 17, we had 787 animals in our care – this is 6 fewer animals compared to the previous week. We have 65 at our Carson Campus, 276 at our Reno Campus, and 446 in the care of our foster volunteers. The Carson Campus dog kennels are at 72.41% capacity and the Reno Campus dog kennels are at 81.69% capacity.

235 animals came into our campuses last week – a 6% decrease from the previous week. NHS received 56 Owner/Guardian Surrenders (-30 animals from the previous week), 27 Strays (+18 animals from the previous week) and 54 Good Samaritan Strays (+24 animals from the previous week). We also transferred in 49 cats, 34 dogs, and 0 other animals from our close partners at Washoe County Regional Animal Services.

118 cats, 70 dogs, and 10 others were adopted last week – this is 8 fewer cats, 21 additional dogs, and 9 additional other animals compared to the previous week. We were able to reunite 1 cats (+0 from the previous week) and 5 dogs (-2 from the previous week) with their owners.

Last week, 6 cats and 2 dogs were humanely euthanized for medical reasons and 12 kittens and one rabbit failed to thrive and died unassisted in our care. 5 dogs were euthanized for aggression to humans.

 

Definitions:

  • Last week: The period from Monday to Sunday ending on 06/23/2024.
  • Previous week: The period from Monday to Sunday ending on 06/16/2024.
  • Owner/Guardian Surrenders – Animals surrender to NHS by the legal owners of the animal.
  • Strays – Animals found and turned into NHS without a clear owner.
  • Good Samarian Strays – Animals found and turned into NHS who are younger than 8 weeks of age and too young to stay in shelter for a stray hold.
