NHS Metrics Monday 06.17.24

Trent (Director of Operations) with a Nevada Humane Society Metrics Monday update and some key information about last week.
As of 8 am Monday, June 17, we had 793 animals in our care – this is 40 additional animals compared to the previous week. We have 75 at our Carson Campus, 250 at our Reno Campus, and 468 in the care of our foster volunteers. The Carson Campus dog kennels are at 67.24% capacity and the Reno Campus dog kennels are at 79.58% capacity.
249 animals came into our campuses last week – a 10% increase from the previous week. NHS received 86 Owner/Guardian Surrenders (+35 animals from the previous week), 9 Strays (-7 animals from the previous week) and 30 Good Samaritan Strays (-14 animals from the previous week). We also transferred in 55 cats, 38 dogs, and 0 other animals from our close partners at Washoe County Regional Animal Services.
126 cats, 49 dogs, and 1 others were adopted last week – this is 10 fewer cats, 10 fewr dogs, and 3 fewer other animals compared to the previous week. We were able to reunite 1 cats (+1 from the previous week) and 7 dogs (-1 from the previous week) with their owners.
Last week, 7 cats and 1 dog were humanely euthanized for medical reasons and 6 kittens failed to thrive and died unassisted in our care. 1 dog’s behavior precluded life-saving medical care, 4 dogs were euthanized for aggression to humans, and 1 dog was euthanized for aggression to humans and animals.
Definitions:
- Last week: The period from Monday to Sunday ending on 06/16/2024.
- Previous week: The period from Monday to Sunday ending on 06/09/2024.
- Owner/Guardian Surrenders – Animals surrender to NHS by the legal owners of the animal.
- Strays – Animals found and turned into NHS without a clear owner.
- Good Samarian Strays – Animals found and turned into NHS who are younger than 8 weeks of age and too young to stay in shelter for a stray hold.
