Hello Friends!

Trent (Director of Operations) with a Nevada Humane Society Metrics Monday update and some key information about last week.

As of 8 am Monday, June 10, we had 753 animals in our care – this is precisely the same number of animals compared to the previous week. We have 66 at our Carson Campus, 215 at our Reno Campus, and 472 in the care of our foster volunteers. The Carson Campus dog kennels are at 74.14% capacity and the Reno Campus dog kennels are at 67.61% capacity.

227 animals came into our campuses last week – a 1% increase from the previous week. NHS received 51 Owner/Guardian Surrenders (+6 animals from the previous week), 16 Strays (-2 animals from the previous week) and 44 Good Samaritan Strays (+13 animals from the previous week). We also transferred in 79 cats, 25 dogs, and 0 other animals from our close partners at Washoe County Regional Animal Services.

136 cats, 59 dogs, and 4 others were adopted last week – this is 31 more cats, 16 more dogs, and 1 additional other animals compared to the previous week. We were able to reunite 0 cats (-1 from the previous week) and 8 dogs (-4 from the previous week) with their owners.

Last week, 5 cats and 3 dogs were humanely euthanized for medical reasons and 6 kittens failed to thrive and died unassisted in our care. 2 dogs were euthanized for aggression to humans.

 

Definitions:

  • Last week: The period from Monday to Sunday ending on 06/09/2024.
  • Previous week: The period from Monday to Sunday ending on 06/02/2024.
  • Owner/Guardian Surrenders – Animals surrender to NHS by the legal owners of the animal.
  • Strays – Animals found and turned into NHS without a clear owner.
  • Good Samarian Strays – Animals found and turned into NHS who are younger than 8 weeks of age and too young to stay in shelter for a stray hold.
