NHS Metrics Monday 05.19.24

Trent (Director of Operations) with a Nevada Humane Society Metrics Monday update and some key information about last week.
As of 8 am Monday, May 20, we had 682 animals in our care – this is 55 additional animals compared to the previous week. We have 59 at our Carson Campus, 183 at our Reno Campus, and 440 in the care of our foster volunteers. The Carson Campus dog kennels are at 74.14% capacity and the Reno Campus dog kennels are at 71.13% capacity. Dog kennel capacity at both campuses were high all week, with Reno’s capacity being critical (over 80%) for much of the week.
241 animals came into our campuses last week – a 0% increase from the previous week. NHS received 44 Owner/Guardian Surrenders (-25 animals from the previous week), 14 Strays (+1 animals from the previous week) and 64 Good Samaritan Strays (+26 animals from the previous week). We also transferred in 82 cats, 23 dogs, and 0 other animals from our close partners at Washoe County Regional Animal Services.
74 cats, 68 dogs, and 8 others were adopted last week – this is 14 fewer cats, 9 additional dogs, and 7 additional other animals compared to the previous week. We were able to reunite 2 cats (+2 from the previous week) and 12 dogs (+6 from the previous week) with their owners.
Last week, 1 cat was humanely euthanized for medical reasons and 10 kittens and one rabbit failed to thrive and died unassisted in our care. 5 dogs were euthanized for aggression to humans.
Definitions:
- Last week: The period from Monday to Sunday ending on 05/19/2024.
- Previous week: The period from Monday to Sunday ending on 05/12/2024.
- Owner/Guardian Surrenders – Animals surrender to NHS by the legal owners of the animal.
- Strays – Animals found and turned into NHS without a clear owner.
- Good Samarian Strays – Animals found and turned into NHS who are younger than 8 weeks of age and too young to stay in shelter for a stray hold.
