Hello Friends!

Trent (Director of Operations) with a Nevada Humane Society Metrics Monday update and some key information about last week.

As of 8 am Monday, May 13, we had 627 animals in our care – this is 57 additional animals than the previous week. We have 55 at our Carson Campus, 201 at our Reno Campus, and 371 in the care of our foster volunteers. The Carson Campus dog kennels are at 72.41% capacity and the Reno Campus dog kennels are at 73.94% capacity.

242 animals came into our campuses last week – a 14% increase from the previous week. NHS received 69 Owner/Guardian Surrenders (+19 animals from the previous week), 13 Strays (-9 animals from the previous week) and 38 Good Samaritan Strays (-5 animals from the previous week). We also transferred in 74 cats, 31 dogs, and 1 other animals from our close partners at Washoe County Regional Animal Services.

88 cats, 59 dogs, and 1 other were adopted last week – this is 26 additional cats, 10 additional dogs, and 3 fewer other animals than the previous week. We were able to reunite 0 cats (-1 from the previous week) and 6 dogs (+1 from the previous week) with their owners.

Last week, 10 cats and 2 dogs were humanely euthanized for medical reasons and 3 kittens failed to thrive and died unassisted in our care. 5 dogs were euthanized for aggression to humans.

 

Definitions:

  • Last week: The period from Monday to Sunday ending on 05/12/2024.
  • Previous week: The period from Monday to Sunday ending on 05/05/2024.
  • Owner/Guardian Surrenders – Animals surrender to NHS by the legal owners of the animal.
  • Strays – Animals found and turned into NHS without a clear owner.
  • Good Samarian Strays – Animals found and turned into NHS who are younger than 8 weeks of age and too young to stay in shelter for a stray hold.
