NHS Metrics Monday 05.06.24

Trent (Director of Operations) with a Nevada Humane Society Metrics Monday update and some key information about last week.
As of 8 am Monday, May 6, we had 570 animals in our care – this is 69 additional animals than the previous week. We have 42 at our Carson Campus, 186 at our Reno Campus, and 342 in the care of our foster volunteers. The Carson Campus dog kennels are at 63.79% capacity and the Reno Campus dog kennels are at 81.69% capacity.
213 animals came into our campuses last week – a 7% decrease from the previous week. NHS received 50 Owner/Guardian Surrenders (-19 animals from the previous week), 22 Strays (+5 animals from the previous week) and 43 Good Samaritan Strays (+0 animals from the previous week). We also transferred in 56 cats, 27 dogs, and 4 other animals from our close partners at Washoe County Regional Animal Services.
62 cats, 49 dogs, and 4 others were adopted last week – this is 3 fewer cats, 5 fewer dogs, and 17 fewer other animals than the previous week. We were able to reunite 1 cats (+0 from the previous week) and 5 dogs (-5 from the previous week) with their owners.
Last week, 2 cats and 3 dogs were humanely euthanized for medical reasons and 7 kittens failed to thrive and died unassisted in our care. 4 dogs were euthanized for aggression to humans.
Definitions:
- Last week: The period from Monday to Sunday ending on 05/05/2024.
- Previous week: The period from Monday to Sunday ending on 04/28/2024.
- Owner/Guardian Surrenders – Animals surrender to NHS by the legal owners of the animal.
- Strays – Animals found and turned into NHS without a clear owner.
- Good Samarian Strays – Animals found and turned into NHS who are younger than 8 weeks of age and too young to stay in shelter for a stray hold.
