Trent (Director of Operations) with a Nevada Humane Society Metrics Monday update and some key information about last week.

As of 8 am Monday, April 29, we had 501 animals in our care – this is 71 additional animals than the previous week. We have 53 at our Carson Campus, 153 at our Reno Campus, and 295 in the care of our foster volunteers. The Carson Campus dog kennels are at 67.24% capacity and the Reno Campus dog kennels are at 73.24% capacity.

230 animals came into our campuses last week – a 3% decrease from the previous week. NHS received 69 Owner/Guardian Surrenders (+3 animals from the previous week), 17 Strays (-3 animals from the previous week) and 43 Good Samaritan Strays (-4 animals from the previous week). We also transferred in 41 cats, 32 dogs, and 2 other animals from our close partners at Washoe County Regional Animal Services.

65 cats, 54 dogs, and 21 others were adopted last week – this is 11 additional cats, 21 fewer dogs, and 14 additional other animals than the previous week. We were able to reunite 1 cats (-2 from the previous week) and 10 dogs (+4 from the previous week) with their owners.

Last week, 2 cats and 1 dog were humanely euthanized for medical reasons and 5 kittens failed to thrive and died unassisted in our care. 1 dog was euthanized for aggression to humans.

 

Definitions:

  • Last week: The period from Monday to Sunday ending on 04/28/2024.
  • Previous week: The period from Monday to Sunday ending on 04/21/2024.
  • Owner/Guardian Surrenders – Animals surrender to NHS by the legal owners of the animal.
  • Strays – Animals found and turned into NHS without a clear owner.
  • Good Samarian Strays – Animals found and turned into NHS who are younger than 8 weeks of age and too young to stay in shelter for a stray hold.
