Hello Friends!

Trent (Director of Operations) with a Nevada Humane Society Metrics Monday update and some key information about last week.

As of 8 am Monday, April 15th, we had 357 animals in our care – this is 25 more than the previous week. We have 41 at our Carson Campus, 142 at our Reno Campus, and 174 in the care of our foster volunteers. The Carson Campus dog kennels are at 48.28% capacity and the Reno Campus dog kennels are at 70.42% capacity.

192 animals came into our campuses last week – a 14% increase from the previous week. NHS received 41 Owner/Guardian Surrenders (-1 animals from the previous week), 18 Strays (+9 animals from the previous week) and 24 Good Samaritan Strays (+10 animal from the previous week). We also transferred in 61 cats, 34 dogs, and 0 other animals from our close partners at Washoe County Regional Animal Services.

57 cats, 67 dogs, and 10 others were adopted last week – this is 21 fewer cats, 8 fewer dogs, and 2 additional other animals than the previous week. We were able to reunite 0 cats (-1 from the previous week) and 10 dogs (+7 from the previous week) with their owners.

Last week, 3 cats and 1 dog were humanely euthanized for medical and 12 kittens failed to thrive and died unassisted in our care. 2 dogs were euthanized for aggression to humans and one for aggression to humans and animals.

 

Definitions:

  • Last week: The period from Monday to Sunday ending on 04/07/2024.
  • Previous week: The period from Monday to Sunday ending on 03/31/2024.
  • Owner/Guardian Surrenders – Animals surrender to NHS by the legal owners of the animal.
  • Strays – Animals found and turned into NHS without a clear owner.
  • Good Samarian Strays – Animals found and turned into NHS who are younger than 8 weeks of age and too young to stay in shelter for a stray hold.
