Metrics Monday 03/15/26
Population & Capacity
As of 7pm Sunday, March 15th, we have 193 animals in our care – 34 less animals from the previous week. We have 29 at our Carson Campus, 107 at our Reno Campus, and 57 in the care of our foster volunteers. The Carson Campus dog kennels are at 28% capacity, and the Reno Campus dog kennels are at 47% capacity.
Intakes
137 animals came into our campuses last week. NHS received 48 Owner/Guardian Surrenders (10 less animals from the previous week), 13 Strays (no change from the previous week) and zero Strays too young for adoption (eight less from the previous week). We also transferred 33 cats, 30 dogs and two small animals from our close partners at Washoe County Regional Animal Services.
Outcomes
59 cats, 59 dogs and seven small animals were adopted last week – this is eight more cats, three more dogs, and three more small animals compared to the previous week. We were able to reunite 10 dogs and two cats with their owners (six less dogs, one more cat and one less small animal compared to last week).
Six animals were humanely euthanized last week; four were due to illness, injuries or quality of life, and two were due to behavior. As the community’s safety net, we take these decisions to heart. They are made only when all other options have been exhausted, and always with kindness, respect, and the goal of preventing suffering. These moments are incredibly difficult for our team; each one weighs heavily, as our staff care deeply about every animal that comes through our doors.
Community Support
Last week we received 29 surrender requests for cats and 61 surrender requests for dogs. The median time between a completed application to surrender appointment last week was four days for cats and three days for dogs. Same day emergency surrender appointments are available every day for situations that require immediate relinquishment.
