Have a Hoppy Holiday

In August of this year, a very sweet pup came to our shelter as a stray. It was suspected that he was hit by a car, and he seemed to be in a great deal of pain due to a femur fracture with severe swelling. Our veterinary team decided to amputate his leg. He recovered wonderfully and was not long after made available for adoption.

This sweet pup is Hopscotch. He was not only a very handsome tripod, but he had a beautiful personality. He patiently waited 43 days at our shelter for his fur-ever home. In October, Hopscotch got a visit, and it was successful because Hopscotch is now in his fur-ever home!

Here is an Update on Hopscotch from his fur-ever family!

“We did change is name to Hopper and nicknamed him “hoppy”. He is an extremely happy boy. Only physical appearance would one know he only has 3 legs. The day we brought him home on Oct 7. He immediately adapted to our house. Learned the doggie door and explored every inch of our large backyard. He is very affectionate and often thinks he is a lap dog. We had our vet give him a “once over,” including all kinds of tests, and indicate he is healthy all around. As my wife loves to take him (and our prior dogs) on daily walks, we noticed some issues we were uncertain of the reasons. He would wine and yelp in a way we can’t describe. In the vehicle, he would make the same barking and whining sounds. We had reached out to dog specialists and counselors to get to the reasons. We then found a dog trainer with Sit Means Sit and made the decision to send Hopper to Doggie Boot Camp for a month (with no visitations). We had him for just over a month and then had to let him go to Boot Camp. We did receive video updates weekly and anxiously waited for his graduation. On graduation day, we reunited with him, and now we are being trained on what Hopper learned. It has only been a week since he has been back home, but we already see a difference in his training. My wife now enjoys walking with him, and he can now sit, stay, and “go free-outside running to freely roam the yard.” He comes on command, sits, and doesn’t beg anymore. Yes, this is a shout-out to Sit Means Sit. They were great. It did cost us an unexpected amount, but we felt for Hopper’s benefit (and ours), it would be worth it, and so far, it has proven such. He has become a great addition to our family and loves everyone who comes into our home (if we approve of them). He is passionate, devoted, dedicated, and loving toward us. He hangs out with my wife when she is working out in the mornings and keeps his head on my lap when I work via laptop late at night.”

We love to see that Hopper got his happily ever after. We are grateful to be able to provide resources to help dogs like Hopscotch keep shining.
