Fostering Neo-Natals

The Purr-fect Way to Make a Difference: Why Fostering Neonatal Pets Changes Lives

Have you ever dreamed of cuddling tiny kittens or playful puppies while making a real impact on their lives? Fostering neonatal pets is one of the most rewarding (and adorable) ways to help animals in need. At Nevada Humane Society, our fosters are the unsung heroes giving these vulnerable babies the love and care they need to thrive.

Every bottle-fed kitten or wobbly-legged puppy that gets a second chance is thanks to people like you. If the thought of becoming a foster parent has crossed your mind (or you’re already fostering), here’s why your kind-hearted care matters so much and how you’re supporting our mission.

Why Fostering Neonatal Pets Is Paw-sitive for Everyone

Neonatal kittens and puppies are some of the most fragile and high-need animals that come through our doors. Many arrive as Good Samaritan surrenders, found in the community, often times without their mothers. These tiny lives depend on foster homes to survive and thrive. By opening your home, you’re truly saving lives.

Here’s why fostering is so important:

1. It Saves Lives

Neonatal kittens and puppies don’t have the strength to fend for themselves. Fostering gives them a chance to grow, be cared for, and eventually find loving homes.

2. It Provides a Safe Environment

Your home is the perfect place for these little ones to grow up healthy and strong. Away from the shelter, they can thrive in a safe, quiet space filled with love.

3. It Reduces Stress

Just like us, pets feel more at ease in a loving home. Fostering helps them relax, build confidence, and stay happy until they’re ready for adoption.

4. It Prepares Them for Adoption

Fostered pets are more likely to adapt quicker to their future forever homes. Whether it’s getting used to life in a household or being around people, you’re setting them up for success.

Best of all? You’re not doing it alone. At Nevada Humane Society, we provide everything you need—from food, toys, and litter to medical care and ongoing support. All you have to offer is your time, love, and a space in your heart.

The Backbone of Nevada Humane Society

Foster parents are the heart of everything we do at Nevada Humane Society. Without your kindness, we couldn’t accomplish our mission of saving lives and finding homes for pets.

Just last year, we had over 4,000 fosters, 1,395 of which were neonatal. That’s thousands of wagging tails and tiny purrs that wouldn’t have been possible without our fosters. Your dedication means the world to us, and most importantly, to the animals in our care.
