Celebrate National Check the Chip Day
August 15th is a day that every pet owner should mark on their calendar! It’s National Check the Chip Day—a day dedicated to reminding us of the importance of microchipping our pets, as well as ensuring their microchip information is up to date. This simple yet crucial act can be the difference between a joyful reunion and a heartbreaking loss. Let’s explore why this day is so important, what steps you can take to participate, and how you can ensure the safety of your beloved pets!
Why Is National Check the Chip Day Important?
Every year, millions of pets go missing. Whether they escape from a backyard, run off during a walk, or get lost due to a natural disaster, the chances of reuniting with them decrease significantly if they don’t have proper identification. Microchipping has proven to be an effective tool in bringing lost pets back home.
Benefits of Microchipping:
1. Permanent Identification:
Unlike collars and tags, which can easily be removed or lost, a microchip provides permanent identification for your pet. This tiny device, about the size of a grain of rice, is implanted under your pet’s skin and remains there for life.
2. Increases the Chances of Reunion:
According to the American Veterinary Medical Association, microchipped dogs are more than twice as likely to be returned to their owners, and microchipped cats are more than 20 times as likely to be reunited with their families compared to those without microchips.
3. Quick and Painless Procedure:
Microchipping is a quick, painless procedure that can be performed by your veterinarian. It’s a one-time process that provides lifelong benefits for your pet’s safety.
